Rubicon Forest Protection Group is pleased to announce our forthcoming Mountain Forest & River Ecology Tour.

Car convoy plus short walks
9:30 am to 2:00 pm

A chance to discover what is so special about the mountain forests and streams for Leadbeater’s Possum, Sooty Owl, Barred Galaxias and other wildlife.

Also enjoy a scenic drive through the tall mountain forests of Rubicon State Forest and delve into the fascinating history, culture and ecology of the area.

Short walks and stops to view very old and young mountain ash, alpine ash and shining gums. A highlight is the magical moss-covered Antarctic Beech forest surrounding the Royston River below Mt Bullfight.

Tour leader Ken Deacon has a wonderful knowledge about the history of the magnificent Rubicon forests, Uncle Roy Patterson will give an insight into bush foods and ecologist Ann Jelinek will reveal the diverse forest ecology of the area.

Transport: Self drive/car pooling (2-wheel drive cars are fine).

Bring: Sturdy shoes; wind/water proof jacket (it can be several degrees colder up the mountain than in the valley); snacks, lunch and water, binoculars, sunhat & sunscreen.
